This year (5777), the months of Av and Elul have brought us an unusually dramatic and painful backdrop to the Yamim Nor’aim. Since the Charlottesville neo-Nazi/white supremacists’ demonstration and the subsequent reactions to it, we have grappled with the presence of hate in American society and with the question of how we as religious leaders can respond as rod’fei shalom and rod’fei tsedek in our own communities and toward the “others” in our midst.
Here at Pardes, and particularly through our Pardes Rodef Shalom Communities Program, we believe that Jewish texts provide great wisdom to guide us in teaching and leading in the midst of deeply contentious times. It therefore gives us great pleasure to share with you to a special pre-Rosh Hashana webinar for rabbis entitled, “Post Charlottesville: Can We Still Engage in Constructive Political Dialogue?” given on September 5, 2017. The webinar is taught by Rabbi Dr. Daniel Roth, director of the Pardes Center for Judaism and Conflict Resolution, and Rabbi Amy Eilberg, director of the Pardes Rodef Shalom Communities Program.
