Shemot 5781: Moshe’s Choice

Introduction

This week’s parasha introduces us to Moshe, the future liberator of Israel. A fanciful Midrash reconstructs his childhood, as baby Moshe is placed in a fateful situation and must childishly make a choice. As we shall see, the Midrash not only draws upon provocative Biblical precedents but also provides a reading that has profound implications for us.
