More about the project

The fellowship explores the place of Aggada within the Talmud and, in particular, its relationship to Halakha. The research asks how rabbinic narratives can illustrate, enhance, qualify, and critique rabbinic laws.

The fellow will investigate passages from the Talmud and other rabbinic works dealing with a range of halakhic questions. The research process involves identifying relevant rabbinic discussions, analyzing the different legal positions they contain, and comparing these positions with ideas expressed through Aggada. Weekly meetings with Gila will be devoted to reviewing and discussing the fellow’s research findings.

Important: Supplemental fellowship applications will only be considered once a full Beit Midrash Program application has been received.
