Program theme

Inheritance: What Do We Preserve? What Do We Transform?
The Jewish balancing act of tradition and innovation

Much of the strength of Jewish tradition stems from its emphasis on preserving text, opinions, laws, and customs – even when their origins have grown dimmer with passing time. And yet, Judaism has survived also because each generation of Jews has reinterpreted and reinvented the tradition in light of its unique circumstances.

Pardes faculty Rabbi Michael Hattin, Rabbanit Nechama Goldman Barash, Dr. David Bernstein, and Aviva Lauer delve into the questions and dilemmas evoked by the Jewish commitment to this eternal balancing act.

A community-wide Yom Iyun on the last day of the program will include both Pardes teachers and local speakers across the spectrum of Boston’s diverse Jewish population.
